Vietnam has shown significant progress in AI readiness, climbing from 76th in 2020 to 55th in 2022, as per the Oxford Insights report that evaluates government AI service delivery preparedness. Scoring 54.48, Vietnam ranks 9th in East Asia, ahead of some ASEAN neighbours but trailing behind Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
The score also surpasses the East Asia regional average, placing Vietnam 4th among 9 global regions. Following the Prime Minister’s 2021 decision on AI strategy, aiming for socio-economic development through AI by 2030, Vietnam has implemented AI in various sectors. The nation targets to be within the top four in ASEAN and top 50 worldwide in AI application, develop 10 trademark AI technologies, and establish three national data and computing centres.
