Japanese semiconductor firms considering investment in Vietnam

SBI Holdings, a Japanese financial firm, views Vietnam as a promising location for semiconductor manufacturing and is considering establishing factories there. CEO Yoshitaka Kitao expressed interest in collaborating with Vietnamese IT companies like FPT to create a semiconductor ecosystem. Vietnam is prioritizing industrialization with technologies like semiconductors, seeking foreign investment, and offering incentives to attract top investors.

Japanese companies Renesas Electronics and Tokyo Electron are already involved in Vietnam’s tech sector. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is encouraging Japanese investment and technology transfer to Vietnam, aiming to transform one million IT engineers into semiconductor engineers and integrate Vietnam into Japan’s supply chain. Chinh’s visit to Japan coincides with the ASEAN-Japan 50th Anniversary Summit and the 50th year of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties, highlighting their strong economic partnership.
