Vietnam and Japan have officially upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world. The two leaders announced the upgrade, aiming to promote bilateral relations in all fields and expand into new areas of cooperation. Both Parties agreed to maintain annual high-level exchanges and meetings, implement bilateral mechanisms, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as security and defence, economic links, human resource development, culture, tourism, and education.
They also agreed to promote cooperation in new fields such as energy, environment, science and technology, green transformation, digital transformation, and innovation. They also emphasized the importance of a free and open international order based on the rule of law and principles upholding the United Nations Charter. The two leaders expressed concern about the situation in the South China Sea and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, security, safety, freedom of maritime, aviation, and unhindered legal economic activities in the East Sea.
